Monday Montage: My Mom in Thailand Again!

I got some really exciting news a few days ago… MY MOM IS COMING TO VISIT!!! Her tickets are booked and she will be here in just a few weeks!!! Just in time for Z’s 4th birthday. It is bound to be a grand time with much fun had! I have lots planned for her… and much of it will be new for me too! So expect many posts about my travels with my mom!

Over a year ago, my mom visited while we were in Hua Hin, Thailand and there were some serious setbacks to our fun time. There was  a huge storm the day she arrived which knocked out our power for a few days and broke the town water line, so we didn’t have running water for the first 12 days of my moms visit. She took it like a champ though and even wrote a post about her time here.

This time around, water won’t be an issue, our landlord is awesome and has made sure we have two 1000 liter reservoirs  of saved water in case our water is shut off. In fact our city water was shut off for a bit a month or so ago, and we didn’t even realize it for a few days. We are good on water… but most likely there will be something else that doesn’t go as planned. One thing living in a foreign country teaches you is that flexibility is key.  Well, actually flexibility no matter where you live is key.

So on that note, here are my pictures this week. I hope your Monday is great, and if it isn’t that it’s over quickly! 🙂

It's a rare sight here, but this is the much talked about Prius. Should I mention that he cut me off in traffic just like back home? Maybe it was an American driver. :)

Now it’s your turn! Do you live near your parents? If you don’t live near them, what is your favorite thing to do with them when they visit, or you visit them? Do you have happiness of lifestyle… I mean a home entertainment system? Leave a comment and join in the fun!

Ever so grateful that Singapore has not reached that stage of water conservation yet although I recall a few occasions when there were long periods of drought…Happy Monday! 🙂

I am sure that Singapore has everything so streamlined that that will never happen 🙂

I’m so happy for you that your mom is coming to visit! My mom and I just started planning a trip to the east coast to visit my oldest in the fall – so much fun.

Your water story reminds me of the time my husband and I took our three kids to Ohio to visit my grandparents. They lived in a small city on the Ohio river, and the day we arrived, water went out for miles around. We were there for four days, and had to carry pool water to our hotel room to flush the toilet the whole time. Yuck! That was sort of a capper to a trip that really wasn’t much fun to begin with…

That’s exactly what we had to do! We
Had our own pool so at least it wasn’t much of a walk though. Have a great time on the East coast! I hope
You will write about your travels 🙂

I don’t know how you live so far from your mom. It is great that she gets to come visit you. I live only an hour away from my mom and sometimes that seems too far!

I have spent years living in other areas than my mom and I miss her everyday. It never gets easier. 🙂 I am trying to get her and my dad to move over here with us… Let’s just hope that this time she has a more comfortable stay. 🙂

How cool that your mom is visiting!!! Mine used to visit when l was an expat in the U.S. :-). Now, with health issues, l visit her now.. Good that you have water on reserve, she sounds like a trooper though, so that’s a good thing.

Mom? Awesome! She must be a real trooper. I couldn’t ever get mine to come on an airplane that far. Uh-uh. I hope it is spectacular and as expected this time! We love to go home (about 15 hours drive) to see our family. Then we get to do all the fun, reassuring things we cherish: fishing, campfires, county fairs, etc. My parents just don’t like travel.

I am pretty lucky my parents enjoy traveling. If only the tickets over here weren’t so darn expensive. We would fly back and they could fly here more often. 🙂
Sounds like a fun time with your family though! I love county fairs.

Love that your mom is coming to visit soon! Looking forward to following along on the adventures you have with her–bet Z is excited to see Grandma! We are off to visit my mom in South Carolina in just a couple of weeks—unfortunately all the grandparents live fairly far away, but luckily they live in beautiful places that we can go visit!

It’s nice to hear of another family that lives far from the grandparents and does okay. Sometimes I feel guilty that we are keeping z away from them… But then I think of all the awesome experiences and fun she has had in life and I stop feeling so bad. 🙂

Isn’t it just the best feeling in the world when your family comes to visit? I remember being soo excited a few years ago when my parents came to see me in Bangkok (where I was living at the time). But of course, stuff had to go wrong (no broken water lines) and I broke my foot the day before. But it was still great to see my family. Hopefully your mum’s visit will go smoothly this time. 🙂

Alana you are so right! I didn’t realize how lucky we are to have “unlimited” water in the States. Not having water for so long made me realize how much I waste as well, so now I am much more conservative when we use water. You never know if you will have it here later 🙂 thanks for reading and commenting!

Your mum coming is so exciting! It’s so much fun when family and friends come to visit. My parents live in the English countryside while I live in Germany, they’re also in their late 70’s and don’t really feel up to flying or travelling to a non-English-speaking country so we go to them.

My brother is coming to visit this summer though so that is awesome and I’m planning so many things as his kids are close in age to my boy. And they have a little girl. Nobody in my family has girls. My mum was the only girl in her set. I was the only girl (and I have 3 brothers. Yikes), and my niece is the only girl too…. I can’t wait as he’s my favourite brother. Yes, I have a favourite one! Heigh Ho!

How fun! It is interesting how the family lines can be the same generation after generation? I find it fascinating 🙂
