Monday Montage: Full of Surprises

It rained for about 20 minutes the other day here in Phuket, Thailand. It was a wonderful change of pace as the days are getting hotter and hotter here (so far the hottest was about 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees Fahrenheit). We have actually had to turn our A/C on occasionally as the fans just weren’t cutting it. March, April, and most of May are the hottest times of the year here in Phuket, and so far the heat is right on schedule. Except for that 20 minutes of blessed rain that broke the 4 month drought that has loomed over the area, and gave us about an hour of much cooler weather. Oh, yes, and it also shorted out the electricity in our town and others near it. Oh, Thailand. One really never knows what to expect from one day to the next, except that there will be one or two surprises in store.

Oh… and Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all you lovely folks out there, have a pint and some corned beef cabbage for me! I can’t go out as I am not wearing green and I cannot stand to be pinched.

At the Jungceylon Mall in Patong Phuket they are having a kind of art show to bring awareness to the plight of Thai elephants. This was the sign for it and Z loved it.

These clocks have His Majesty the King of Thailand on them. I think they are pretty cool looking.

I could hardly contain myself when I found out that there is a Payless Shoe Source here in Phuket. For those of you that don't know, they sell shoes in the States at pretty low prices. I pretty much ran into the store to see if they have my humungous size shoe.

And look at that!!!!! Size 11 USA! My life is now complete here in Phuket and I will lack for nothing! Hallelujah!

They have big shoes in Phuket! We must go! (Actually I don’t have a problem, it’s A.)

I sometimes really wish I had smaller feet because I could get the cutest shoes here for under $3 a pair very easily. But I have to look at it that I am saving so much money not being able to fit in any shoes here except for the select few at Payless now. 🙂
Does Singapore have larger sizes in shoes for ladies?

I’m a pretty standard size, so I’m not sure. They tend to have pretty much anything you could buy somewhere or other – it’s just knowing where to find it. (And paying the price for certain types of things.) There’s always v-post if you need something imported, as well (risky with shoes, though). It’s A that has trouble with large sized mens.

Good point about saving money due to not having anything much to spend it on!

I love her silly face in the picture. She has just learned to pose in the last few months.
I am so excited about the shoes! So so so excited!

Z has just started to pose for pictures, and with silly faces no less. She makes me laugh.
I am so glad they have my size, I am just waiting until I can go crazy and buy every shoe. Haha!

I love the photo of “Z” and her little friend. They look gorgeous together. By the way, I have enormous feet too although I’m petite. Shoe size 42 or shoe size 8! When I went to Hong Kong, I felt like a giant with my huge feet. Nobody actually believes that I have large feet ‘cos I’m only 5 foot 3 inches so I get my “lovely” shoes from London and my boots and trainers from Berlin (far cheaper)!

You would just make it to be able to buy shoes here in Thailand! They usually have up to size 8 in all the cute shoes. Better bring an extra suitcase when you visit, they have cute shoes for less than $3 a pair!

Done! I only hope that I can be “reasonable”. We will be flying to Bali after Thailand but I’ve booked us an extra two days in Bangkok before we do so. I only hope Air Asia will be “friendly”….And just to make sure I pre-paid extra lugguage so that we wouldn’t get caught out. Either that or our “hand” luggage is going to be looking like we’re moving out!

Also, the post is very inexpensive here. I have bought things then mailed them back home for under $30 for a large heavy box. 🙂

We just recently got a Payless Shoe Source in Chiang Mai and I will confess it was a little culture shock/excitement! I was excited to find my size, but quickly realized they were American prices and put them back. But it is good to know they are there during desperate times!

So true! Sometimes I am willing to pay American prices 🙂

Totally! Sometimes it is just nice to have a little comfort from home, even if it is something that you never enjoyed at home (like McDonalds!)

I love how food can make me feel like I am having a little but of home, it’s so much cheaper than a flight there. 🙂
