Monday Montage: Loy Krathong

This past week, Loy Krathong was celebrated in Thailand. Loy Krathong is a festival held every November where people send off a floating decorative flower arrangement  (Krathong) into the closest body of water, taking with it their wishes for the year ahead. This is a very important holiday to the Thai’s because many of them think it brings them good luck in the coming year.

Last year, my mom was here and we celebrated it in Hua Hin. This year, it kind of snuck up on us. Zoë was sick with a high fever most of the week and we were house bound with her for a couple of days. Her fever finally seemed to be gone the day that Loy Krathong was being celebrated. We were not going to participate in the festivities, only to give Z a bit more time to recuperate, but then our friend, Jojo brought over a Krathong that she made especially for Z.  That changed our minds and that evening we drove to the nearest beach and set off the Krathong into the ocean.

Have you ever participated in Loy Krathong? Would you want to? What wishes would you want to come true in the next year? Leave a comment and join in the fun!
