Birthday Night in Bangkok

The day had arrived!!! My birthday was here and our night out in Bangkok was upon us!

After a long day of waiting in Immigration for our visas and some compulsory shopping at Central World for books, Chad and I got ready for our night out in the city.

Before we left Z sweetly had everyone sing “Happy Birthday” over some chocolate marshmallow sticks with tons of sprinkles. I tell you, this girl knows what I love. She had me at hello…

It was time to go! EEEE! Chad and I first met 6 of our Bangkok friends at Soul Food Mahanakorn. Located in the Thonglor area, this restaurant prides itself on using fresh, sometimes organic ingredients to make Thai street food. I highly recommend a meal or two at this delicious restaurant if you are in Bangkok… Their cocktails are pretty darn good too!

Lucky for me, my friend Blue took photos of the food for me (she even served me everything the way it’s supposed to be eaten) so you can see everything in the slideshow below. One of the couples also got me a decadent macadamia vanilla cake… I loved it so much that I brought the leftovers of it on the plane ride home! I love being the birthday girl!

After dinner most of our friends had to jet off as it was a Tuesday and they had to work in the morning. I love my friends and so appreciate that they came out to help me celebrate with excellent food.

Our friends A and A then took us to this fantastic bar called Shades of Retro. It had just begun to rain, so it gave us plenty of time to look around inside at all the crazy retro relics and have some fantastic drinks… All of the cocktails were reasonable price and tasty.

I honestly can’t remember all the drinks I had, but the one we had at the end of the night was massive, it was a  glass of watermelon something! (I really need to start writing this stuff down.) It was awesome! I really should have just drunk those all night!

Our friends had to leave after (quite) a few drinks, but first they showed us to another bar in the area called Iron Fairies. It was dark and filled with gargoyles and people. We had one drink there but it was just too dark in there for me. I felt like I was squinting at everyone trying to see everything around me… people probably thought I was giving them the evil-eye.

And that was it. The end of my birthday party. Surprisingly, I didn’t get too crazy and still felt great in the morning! Win-win, I must say.  Seriously though, this was probably my best birthday in a long while. I was completely spoiled. Here’s to another awesome year of life! *Cheers!*

Now it’s your turn, what is your favorite thing to do on your birthday? Leave a comment and tell me.

It sounds great! I’m glad you had such a good time!

Your awesome birthday sounds like exactly the opposite of my favorite kind of birthday, though. For the last couple of years I’ve started the day with breakfast out with whichever of the kids happens to be home, then Chinese or Thai food in the evening with just the fam – sometimes brought in so I can eat in my pajamas, followed by a game or a movie in the basement. 🙂

Your birthday sounds amazing too! I admit that I am very social, but I also love the times at home, just Chad, Z and I watching movies (or Pokemon with Z hahah…) and eating pizza. Funny though, one of the types of food I am most excited about eating in California is the Chinese take-out!!! We cannot get it here and I am so craving some chow mein and szechuan chicken 🙂

Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had a fabulous time. I don’t have a certain thing I like to do. Often it is a treat to be with all of our adult kids and partners. That or heading off on an adventure. That’s fun too. 🙂

I totally agree Sue. It is always a special time with family and friends together. Much more of that to be had in our trip to America coming up. I cannot wait!

That’s cool you could share it with so many friends! I saw a cake in my WordPress reader for the photo of your post, but I don’t see it in the post. I just like a cake on my birthday. Just a cake! And aren’t you lucky that your friend took the photos for you!? That was a real birthday treat for a blogger! 🙂 Happy belated birthday, and may you have a year of peace, joy, and contentment never had before.

Thanks Terri! I wish I had a photographer with me all the time! LOL, I guess I will just have to learn some self-control. We are leaving for the states this week and I am so excited to have real, whole foods! In fact, our first stop is a Whole Foods when we land… salad… yummy!

Thanks Kemkem! It was so good, though I admit I am really looking forward to the food in California… I have made a promise to myself that I will take good pictures of my meals… we will see how much I can refrain from eating it before hand haha

Happy wonderful Birthday my dear. It sounds like you had a fabulous time! And a birthday in Bangkok with yummy cocktails and awesome Thai food? Er. Yes, please!

Personally, like yourself I prefer a birthday where we have a bit of a do, and I’m the pincess and shining star of the night but really, the best birthday I ever had was when my husband baked a 5 layered cake, and invited all our friends secretly. When I saw them, and how much effort my husband had taken to bake that cake all by himself, I cried!

What a fantastic celebration. I may have to drop some hints to Chad about this. 🙂
